Urban Education, post 10

Throughout my volunteer experiences at the school, I have had many learning opportunities that have prepared me for my future career. One thing I learned is that even if a school has limited resources, they can thrive and be successful. The staff was welcoming and they all work hard to make sure each student’s needs are met. While observing the students in the lunchroom and at recess I was able to see them interact socially. Being able to observe students in structured academic settings and also less structured settings allowed me to get a more complete view of students throughout their day at school. Throughout my time in different grade levels, I saw lots of small group work. This worked well for the students, because they were able to focus on the specific things in which they needed to improve. I think using small groups is beneficial and I plan to use them as necessary in my future classroom. Overall, my time at the school has been a positive learning experience.
